Father Edward J. Flanagan founded Boys Town solely on the concepts of Christian charity, enabling tens of thousands of people to come to the assistance of America’s abandoned youth in the midst of The Great Depression.  He insisted that prayer was the only instrument needed for its success and never believed in huge government handouts, but in the providence of God Almighty.
 

Boys Town was established on a spiritually based set of ideals, never upon the secular ideals as dictated by the acceptance of government dole-outs and grant taking.  He was a Catholic priest.  It is necessary that Boys Town return to those ideals and established patterns of success.  What we see now in the governance of Boys Town is far from this.  The business style approach to “success,” practiced at Boys Town, has brought about ruin, especially in the type,  scope and amount of residential youth care.   Explanations, real transparency, correction and change by oversight authorities are insisted upon, from both church and civil authorities.  May Father Flanagan’s Dream be restored by your prayers.
